5 everyday habits that may affect your teeth

Drinking acidic beverages often

Sodas, energy drinks and some juices contain acids that can wear down enamel. Choose water more often, and ask your dentist about any tooth sensitivity.

Chewing ice

Ice is hard enough to damage a tooth or dental restoration. Enjoy it in your drink without biting it.

Clenching or grinding your teeth

Tell your dentist if you notice jaw tension, pain when you wake up or worn teeth. An evaluation can help identify the cause and appropriate care.

Brushing too hard

Brushing harder does not clean better. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle strokes, and ask your dentist to show you a comfortable technique.

Waiting for pain before scheduling a checkup

Pain is not the only sign to watch for. If your gums bleed or you have ongoing sensitivity or pain while chewing, schedule a dental evaluation.
